4 Batteries Recycling Process Complete Guide

Batteries are made to generate power for our cars, phones, remotes, touch lights, and more. However, the use of batteries evolved in our daily activities, but these batteries are not produced to work forever.

At some point they got spoiled, and it’s either we dispose of them into the landfills, which is not recommended, or recycle them which is recommended by specialists.

According to research, these batteries are made up of various acids that can cause numerous contamination to the world, if not disposed of properly.

They can cause serious pollution and damage to the environment; soil, water, and food.

These batteries also contain materials that are highly valued by manufacturing companies. But they are also more likely to cause pollution and poisoning accidents if improperly disposed of.

This brings to the emergency of battery recycling; to reduce battery wastes going into the landfills, and also the number of environmental damages it will cause to the world.

When it comes to battery waste recycling, there are a variety of methods or ways involved – which is what this article is all about.

In this article, we will discuss the various processes involved in battery recycling:

Below are the four (4) stages involved in the battery recycling process (Batteries recycling);

4 Batteries Recycling Process Complete Guide

1. Collection Stage

The battery recycling process starts with the collection of battery wastes from different locations.

At this stage, all batteries are being collected in a variety of ways. However, all recycling companies have different methods through which batteries are being collected for recycling purposes around the globe.

For instance, a recycling company can decide to open a local recycling firm that would be specialized in the collection process within a specific location.

2. Sorting Stage

The second stage involved in the battery recycling process is the sorting stage.

At the collection stage, several batteries are being collected ranging from lead-acid batteries to lithium-ion batteries, to nickel-cadmium batteries at the local firm.

These batteries have different acids and can’t be recycled together, except they are sorted out into their various types and sizes. At the firm, the workers would sort them out by their types and size for pre-processing.

3. Crushing, Heating, and Washing Stage

This stage is known as the pre-processing stage. At this stage, all batteries had different ways though they are being crushed, heated, washed to produce a new product.

Batteries such as lead-acid, nickel-cadmium batteries, and more are crushed and heated until the metals are melted, then poured into small molds called pigs and hogs depending on the recycling company.

The same way other types of batteries had their ways of crushing, heating, and washing for the main process which is to mould them into a new product.

4. Moulding Stage

At this stage, the valuable waste materials are shipped to a factory where they can be molded into a new battery or product.

Additionally, battery recycling is a way to save energy by producing new products from scratch, saving the world from environmental contaminants, and can also serve as a means of generating income and creating jobs within a country.
